So here we are: nearly at the end of the year. With everyone still running around panicking about presents, wailing about the weather and generally stressing out, I thought I’d take a little time to write a Festive Wrap-up of what this year has been like for ServerChoice.
The sub-heading may be a bit of a pun, but it’s got a serious message at heart: this year we transformed ourselves into a security-focussed company. We’ve always known that security is a vital part of the process (and had our ISO 27001 certification to prove it), but with breaches forever in the news we felt industry needed a company that prioritised security. Now, nearly a year down the line, we have experienced in-house Information Security Officers, robust internal processes and a whole culture of security in our company.
As a part of our shift to a high-security hosting company, we’re also PCI DSS v3.0 accredited. In fact we’re a Level 1 Service Provider (the highest level available) and were one of the first companies in the UK to do so. This means we can help organisations deal with card payments and even help them manage their PCI compliance, thanks to our security consultancy services.
Events and exhibitions
Right, enough bragging – time for something more fun. This year we’ve also been running a few events and attended some major exhibitions. InfoSec was the big show in the calendar this year and everyone who came to visit us will have seen how impressive the stand was. We all found it a good forum to exchange ideas and start spreading our security mantra to the wider industry. CyberSecurity Expo also should get a mention here: it might not be as big as InfoSec but we found it just as useful. And in the less corporate side of things, we’ve had one or two drinks evenings at The Hospital Club, an amazing venue in Covent Garden. These have been great chance for us to connect with customers old and new in a low-key, funky environment. Plus it’s always nice when your suppliers buy you a beer, right?
Networking and networking
We’re proud of our MPLS network and the interconnections we have with connectivity providers of all types, but this year saw something special. We grew a whole new section of our network running throughout the connectivity hubs of central London. And to take the other meaning of the word ‘networking’, our Senior Network Engineer, when he’s not architecting new MPLS rings or writing really awesome blogs, has been jetting off around the world building relationships and improving the quality of our peering.
Business as usual
Other than the big things mentioned above, it’s all been business-as-usual here at ServerChoice in 2014. We’re continuing to expand, continuing to help our customers grow, and continuing to be passionate about what we do. As always, if you have any ideas or feedback, please just get in touch. Otherwise, we’ll see you in 2015. Let’s make it a good one.
